*Did you know that electricity travels at a speed of 186,000 miles per second, that's a lot of speed, isn't it? It's the speed at which light travels and we hope that someday we would be able to travel at such speeds. Just imagine . . . Won't it be great if you could just wish your friend in US a very happy birthday in person, and be able to be back in time for office.
*If you were to travel at such incredible speeds, then you would be able to go around the world 8 times. That's faster than the time it takes to flip a switch.
*Lightning, which is a form of electricity, may happen to work its way from the ground up and not from the sky to the ground as it is traditionally believed. We bet not a lot of people know about this. But evidence from a photograph that had been taken years back has sparked this debate in the scientific community.
*The world's first power plant belonged to Thomas Edison, which opened up in 1882 in New York City.
*The first central power plant was established in Pearl Street, Lower Manhattan and started generating electricity on the 4th of September 1882. At the time, the power plant had one generator that could light up 800 light bulbs, but within 14 months the power plant had around 508 subscribers and it had to grow its power production capabilities to be able to power 12,732 bulbs.
*A spark generated from static electricity can be up to 3000 volts. And lightning carries with it, a power of 3 million volts, and interestingly, it lasts only for about a second.
