According to Apple, the pre-order stock it allotted for the new iPad (previously known as the iPad 3 and iPad HD) has quickly been sold-out. This is due to the overwhelming demand for the successor of the iPad 2.
The new iPad was recently unveiled by Tim Cook, Apple?s CEO, a few days ago in San Francisco. The tablet sports the much awaited retina display, which was previously only available to devices such as the iPhone 4S. It also sports the dual-core A5X chip with a quad-core GPU, which Apple claims is four times faster than the quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip with its 12-core GPU. Almost as soon as the tablet was officially announced, it was put on pre-order. The new iPad is set to be released on the 16th of March.
On the Apple Store, UK delivery dates were set for the 16th of March. However, Apple changed its expected delivery date to 2-3 weeks.
USA Today reports, that apple may have exhausted its pre-order stock, but the tablet is still open for pre-order.
In a statement, Apple says, ?Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased.
?Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.?
Aside from the longer delivery period, Apple has also limited new iPad orders to only two per buyer.
It possible that this all a marketing strategy by Apple, which aims to draw more shoppers in to the new iPad. If you?re not willing to wait 2-3 weeks by pre-ordering the device, you can always wait in line outside Apple Stores. However, be warned that queues at Apple Retail Stores will be extremely long. You might have to camp outside stores if you?re itching to get your hands on one earlier than most.
